Flic en Flac is a resort town on the west coast of Mauritius, built behind one of the longest beaches on the island. The lagoon is sheltered by a reef, and because the coast faces west and lies in the lee of the trade winds, the water is often calm and the evenings bring sunsets over the sea.
The town has grown into one of the island’s main holiday centres, with apartments, guesthouses, restaurants and supermarkets in the centre and larger hotels at Wolmar, the quieter southern end of the beach.

Why visit Flic en Flac
Flic en Flac combines a long swimmable beach with an actual town, so you can walk to restaurants and shops. The sheltered west coast makes it one of the more reliable beach bases in winter, when the east and south coasts are windier.
The northern and central parts of the beach can be busy, particularly at weekends when Mauritian families arrive. Wolmar, to the south, is calmer.
The beach and Wolmar
The public beach runs the length of the town, shaded by casuarina trees, with a calm lagoon inside the reef. Wolmar, at the southern end, has several large hotels and a quieter shoreline. Diving centres operate along the coast, with sites outside the reef.
Casela and Cascavelle
Casela, a nature and leisure park on the slopes inland, offers animal encounters and outdoor activities, and the Cascavelle area nearby has a shopping centre. Check current opening details and activities directly with the operators.
Exploring the west
Flic en Flac is well placed for the west and south-west: Tamarin and Black River to the south, Chamarel and the Black River Gorges National Park inland, and Le Morne further south. Port Louis is within reach for a day trip.
Getting there and around
From the airport, the route crosses the island via the plateau towns or the motorway and Port Louis. A pre-booked transfer is the simplest option on arrival.
Buses connect Flic en Flac with Port Louis and Quatre Bornes. Within town, much is walkable; a hire car is useful for the south-west.
Best time to visit
The west coast is the driest and most sheltered part of Mauritius, and the cooler months from about May to November are especially pleasant. Summer is hotter and more humid and includes the cyclone season.
How long to stay
Four to seven nights suits a beach holiday with day trips into the south-west and to Port Louis.
